Welcome to the site. It's main purpose is to share the ramblings, experience, and tips n tricks of a self-confessed I.T. geek. It started at school over 20 years ago, and has paid for the roof over my head ever since leaving.

I am CompTIA Network + certified. I am also a Microsoft Certified Professional. I also hold a H.N.C. in Computing and Management Science. I have held various job roles  in the I.T industry - ranging from Desktop Support to Network Administrator. I enjoy learning (X)HTML and PHP - along with MySQL and have built some websites for local businesses along the way.

Other interests include Joomla, Ubuntu, and most recently Android. The Open Source Movement is extremely engaging and by nature - open to all. I believe, with the advent of Mobile and Cloud computing and more and more accessible Open Source software solutions the traditional Enterprise model that has made companies like Microsoft rich has past its peak. Its all about change, and I am jumping on the bandwagon.

This site is about sharing my experiences along the way and unless stated - without spending any money. Whilst most importantly - enjoying the trip!

1. Ubuntu (http://www.ubuntu.com/)

Wiki: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ubuntu)

Its an Operating System based on Linux. Its free - you can download it now, install it and replace Windows XP/Vista/7 or use it in conjunction with Windows - as I do. Ubuntu has a massive user base, a huge base of supported applications and many of these are also free, released under the same license as Ubuntu itself. Ubuntu has also made new and successful efforts to bring Linux to the Desktop. A very impressive project.

In time I will write some guides to install it and use it and post them here.

EDIT: Yes, i went and installed the new Natty Narwhal (from Maverick Meerkat), and whilst some might not appreciate the new Unity desktop, i quite like it. Must be said, having performed the upgrade 2 days after release, it was a very slow download, but i'm sure it will have picked up by now. No errors upgrading, no application errors after upgrading, everything is working just as it was in Meerkat. Oh, and Inkscape and the ruler re-draw bug is fixed!!!!!

2. Joomla (http://www.joomla.org/)

Wiki: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joomla)

Joomla is an Open Source Content Management Solution. Again, freely available to download, install and use right now. With a large user base, Joomla has an extensive collection of extensions allowing for almost unlimited possibilities. You can build a simple website in seconds, or create an entire enterprise intranet solution. Much of the available functionality is again, completely free to use.

I am using Joomla to build this site. In time I will show you how.

Thats all for now. The site is very new, and empty. But I am working on it everyday - expect to see changes, and slowly, something useful! ;)
